Beneficial And Healthy Antioxidants Found In The Acai Berry

By Cynthia S Young

The acai berry is a diminutive purple berry that is grown only in the rainforests of Brazil. It is highly delicate and because of that it has only been in modern years that it has been obtainable throughout the planet. Though, it is quickly becoming well-known as one of the most nutritious foods in the world.

The acai berry is laden with nutrients and antioxidants yet two of these antioxidants flavonoids have warranted widespread study and is being verified to be extremely favorable for our health, including the avoidance of disease and other problems usually linked with aging.

The acai berry is abundant in a flavonoid called quercitin. Quercitin is a plant-derived flavonoid that is indicated as being at least in some measure accountable for the reduction of cancer, Alzheimer's and other diseases. Studies point toward this link however; there is no reliable clinical evidence on the nutrient or the supplements specially. It is documented as a possible causative issue because diets high in fruits and vegetables that are high in quercitin contribute appreciably to the lessening of disease.

In clear studies quercetin has demonstrated noteworthy anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the production and discharge of histamine and other allergic mediators. It also has strong antioxidant activity as measured by the Oxygen Radical Absorbency Capacity or ORAC scale.

The acai berry has been found to be extremely high in the flavonoid quercetin. Other sources of this very important nutrient are tea, red onions, apples and red wine.

Anthocyanins are the dark purple pigment that leads to the color of such foods as blueberries, eggplant, purple cabbage and of course, the acai berry. Initial laboratory studies show that anthocyanins are potentially helpful for the prevention of cancer, aging and neurological diseases, inflammation, diabetes and bacterial infection.

In another important study, laboratory mice were given a purified form of anthocyanins. The mice in the control group who received this nutrient were able to lessen their body fat and continue it, whereas the other group who received a placebo and another group who received the actual fruit did not have the same effect.

The acai berry is rich in these two essential antioxidants and other vital nutrients also. This tiny berry contains up to 30 times the amount of anthocyanins found in red wine. The acai berry is quickly becoming known as one of the most nourishing foods ever found throughout the world. - 17268
