Using Meatless Substitutions With Your Family Meals

By Meshel Nosak

When coming up with meal ideas to my family I have to think of easy meatless substitutions for my traditional dinner dishes. If you have the resources and you know what the veggie member in your household likes then this is actually very easy to accomplish.

I take my ideas for a simple dinner meal and give it some meat free appeal. There are so many meatless products on the market today that can give you the texture and taste of meat without the animal by-product.

Include meatless products, such as tofu, to your basic grocery shopping list. If your dinner menu calls for hamburgers tonight, make sure to grab a package of veggie burgers as well.

I can easily adjust my dinner menus to include a meatless version each and every night. Another great idea for getting the family to try new vegetables is to serve them a meat free main dish and include meat on the side if desired. Becoming a healthy family will benefit everyone.

Here is a basic list of simple veggie food options you can use to create with a meat free version of your favorite dinner dish:

Barbecue Sandwiches - my favorite cheap and simple dinner idea

*Meatless option - tofu fried

*Meat options - shredded chicken or beef

Homemade Pizza - I just love meal idea without meat but I'll include my families favorite toppings

*Meatless options - any veggie you like or can think of, there are no rules on what to put on a veggie pizza in my house

*Meat eaters - all the meatless ingredients with sausage, ham, and of course pepperoni

Good Ole' Spaghetti - this is the best back up meal when I have had a crazy day

*Veggie eater - loads of vegetables, your favorite sauce and lots of yummy cheese

*Meat eaters - all of the above top with some homemade meatballs

Hamburgers - the most popular all American dinner idea

*Meat free version - veggie burger from the store or a recipe using lentils instead of meat

*Meat options - some lean ground beef and a family favorite recipe

Pasta Dish - any sauce will do but I love Alfredo

*Veggie eater - a rich sauce smothering a bed of your favorite noodles top with cheese

*Meat options - add some sausage and red sauce or chicken and white sauce to the noodle of your choice

O.K. so this is just a few of the easy veggie meal options you can prepare for the "meatless" eater as well as the meat lover. Creating your favorite meals doesn't have to seem impossible anymore. Above all else experiment, you never know what masterpiece you might create.

Check your local health food store, there are so many great meat substitutions these days and some great Internet sites that can help you get the flavor and texture your looking for. Dust off your favorite dinner recipes and get cooking the ideas are endless. - 17268
