The Best Dieting Approach to Get Ripped Abs

By George Green

Nowadays many people want those sexy ripped abs and chest muscles we see all over the magazines and television. To achieve this appearance, you are going to have to remove this layer of fat that lies over the abdominal muscles. It is this layer of fat tissue that hides away those muscles and gives your abdomen a loose, flabby look.

Increasing the calories burned and lowering your calorie intake is the usually the best way to get rid of this fat. In this article I'm going to focus on lowering your calories so you will know how to get ripped.

You only need to look on the bookshelves or in a DVD shop to find a lot of items about dieting. This can be very overwhelming. Reducing the calorie intake, however, is the main focus of the majority of these products. The main problem most people face though is staying motivated and keeping on the diet. To achieve your goal of getting rid of that fat and keeping those abs requires a change of lifestyle and a long term view.

The question that we need answered, therefore, is how do we stick to reducing our calorie intake and keeping motivated? I have found that the best way to achieve this is to set short-term goals and not look beyond that short-term goal. Many sporting disciplines such as weight training can benefit from this stepwise approach.

If you were to plan to lift a certain heavy weight you would not just go for it straight up. You would build up gradually over many weeks. The sensible approach would be to gradually increase the weight lifted each week. Then after a number of weeks you would gradually reach your goal. This approach can also be applied to dieting.

I have found that setting a goal of around four pounds in over one month to be the most successful. I know most people would say this sounds very little compared to the huge amounts promised in those dieting books. However, with these types of diets, which usually involve some form of crash dieting, you can very quickly become demotivated. They also slow down your body's metabolism making it much harder to lose further weight.

The important thing to remember is that if you were able to lose 4 pounds in weight a month, that is a huge 48 pounds over a twelve month period. Now that is a very serious amount. Remember, lots of small losses quickly add up into large losses. At the end of each month I usually set the target for the next month with a general outline of a plan which I often find goes a long way to keeping me motivated.

So if you are looking to get rid of fat or following a fitness program to get a set of sexy ripped abs or to just look and feel more healthier and slimmer then a smaller stepwise approach is the best way to go. - 17268
