It is not easy to remove gluten from a person's diet. Many foods use grain during the preparation. Many people will eat gluten and not even realizing they are doing so. It is not easy to be able to tell if gluten is in the food just by its name. Nonetheless, keeping a strict, gluten free diet is essential if you want to improve your condition. When living on a gluten free diet means gluten-containing cereals such as wheat, rye and barley cannot be an ingredient. At times oats can be included in that list because oats become contaminated during production. However, when you are grocery, shopping you can look on food labels for ingredients that contain grain; these include starch, flavoring, emulsifier, stabilizer, hydrolyzed and plant protein.

One thing someone with celiac disease must be ready to change their eating habits. The gluten free diet needs to be consistent. While shopping, you can always look at the ingredients on the labels of the food. Many products will have the ingredients found on the label.

Now that people are becoming more aware of celiac disease, more grocery stores are carrying gluten free products. Other stores such as the health good stores may offer more of a selection of gluten free products also.

On a daily basis, for work for example, it is best to pack your own lunch. However, it is not expected that you never step foot in a restaurant ever again, so when you do eat out, it is best to keep it simple. For example, you may want to stay away from any meal containing sauce like a salad. This is because more sauces and dressings are likely to contain unknown ingredients that have gluten.

Once you are on a gluten free diet, you will find that it is easier than anticipated. However, doctors are becoming more aware of the disease due to more diagnoses. People with celiac disease have incorporated this diet into their lives and now they feel they are living a normal life like the rest of us.
