Healthy and Natural Aging For People Over 50

By Deborah Levi

Most of us realize we should take care of ourselves by eating right and exercising. At 20, our bodies may let us off the hook a bit if we do not eat right or skip some sessions at the gym. But at fifty, or seventy, it is much more important to make health a hobby.

These days, science has demonstrated that all of our body systems are twined together. Our bellies, skin, metal health, and overall fitness tend to depend upon each other. Some diet changes that help one are of our bodies and minds will tend to have a positive impact in other areas. On the other hand, negative changes to diets or routines may hurt us in more than one way.

For instance, it has been well demonstrated that Omega-3 oils are good for our hearts. One study demonstrated that groups of people who consumed a lot of natural Omega-3 oils had low rates of heart disease even though they also consumed a high cholesterol diet. Omega-3 oils help prevent the sticky stuff from blocking our blood, but also can be good for hair and skin.

Exercise can speed up our metabolism, helping us look leaner and more fit. Of course, it is also good for our hearts. Moderate exercise reduces the risk of heart disease. It will make you healthier, and it will also help you look better! In addition, exercise can be a great mood booster.

Two hours of exercise a week is a suggested minimum. A nice stroll around a couple of blocks or a few turns on a stationary bike should be fine. You do not have to live the life of an Olympic athelete to get benefits from exercise at all.

You do not have to give up carbohydrates and fat. You should just try to prefer the good fats and carbs over the bad ones. Good carbs come from fresh fruit and vegetables and whole grains. If you must go out for a steak and a potato, try to select a smaller portion. And be sure to add a salad and some fruit to that meal. - 17268
