What's the Reason that I Bruise So Easily?

By Carolyn Cooper

Whether you occasionally turn around and notice a bruise on your arm that you just don't remember getting, or it seems that every single small ding and every small bit of pressure leads to unsightly black and blue splotches all over your arms and legs, you may very well be wondering what is up? The truth is that many people are affected by easy bruising, to the point where they are not even sure themselves where the bruise comes from. If this is a condition that you continually suffer, you'll find that there are a variety of things that you need to be aware of.

The first thing that you should keep in mind when you are looking at why you might bruise so easily is what causes bruises in the first place. Bruises are essentially caused by blunt force that is applied to an area of your body. Though the skin is not broken, the pressure is enough to break the capillaries underneath your skin. The blood from these broken capillaries will seep out, and this is what results in the color of the bruises. Your skin tone will have a lot to do with what kind of colors you will turn when you bruise.

Holding these thoughts in one's mind, you'll likely find yourself pondering why you bruise much easier than the people around you, or just why you seem to bruise darker and easier than you ever did now that you've gotten older. The facts are that injured capillaries likely form the bottom line for many of the people who bruise easily. As we mature, the walls of our capillaries in our body, which are located just beneath the skin, can become more subject to injury, and these capillaries which are only protected by a thin layer of skin will be the most subject to breakage. This is why so many people discover that they tend to bruise more easily as they continue to age.

Some people who have a small amount of body fat (most folks would think that you're lucky), you will determine that it makes bruising easier for you as well. As an example, you will soon learn that fat is a substance that can actually cushion your body against injury, and that having an optimum amount on your body can be very helpful when you want to be sure that you are properly padded.

Another factor to consider might be the fact that bruising that happens without any explanation at all can be an indication of a serious illness or disorder. In any case, if you truly think that the bruising is coming out of nowhere, you may find that it would be in your best interests to speak to a doctor as soon as possible; as this can be an indication of a coagulant disorder or even of some kinds of cancer.

Do your homework, and really find out about what bruising actually is, and what might be happening to you. Determine what is occurring in your body, and consider how you might be affected in the long run? Be concerned about your own health and what steps you need to take to deal with bruises that happen too easily and too often. - 17268
