By Daniel Jackson

Before we get into the part where we discuss ways to increase your potassium intake, we need to talk about why you should. A lack or shortage of potassium can negatively impact your heart, cellular process and your body as a whole. Simply put your body cannot function without it.

Now that you know how important potassium is to your day to day functioning, how do we consume it?

1. Nuts and seeds have very high concentration of potassium so eat as much nuts as you can, that should give you a good dose to last you for the day.

2. Dont feel like eating nuts? Scared you will get sick of it? Mix it up with some bran flakes which are crazy packed with potassium.

3. Eat some muesli and you wont have to eat the nuts or seeds and you can definitely avoid the bran flakes.

4. You could even have a handful or so of dried fruits between breakfast and lunch. This will get some potassium in and keep you snacked up between meals.

5. You can also mix dried fruits into a food of your choice such as a salad where something sweet wont be noticed too much.

6. Do you like raisins? If you do thats great news as they are very high in potassium content and could be another source.

7. Another good source of potassium are baked potatoes. Not the kind you might used to eating with cheese or sour cream etc. But just simple plain baked potatoes. If that is something that you can eat then it is yet another option to up your potassium intake.

8. A bit weird but boiled plantains are another good source of potassium.

9. Make yourself some whole wheat pasta and tomato sauce. This italian combo is also very righ in potassium.

10. Last but not least, have some sardines.

Feeling motivated to increase your potassium intake? Thats good. Considering that twenty percent of americans have acute potassium deficiency and we all know where that can lead to. Make the change today and get healthy. - 17268
