Mineral Supplements 101- A Guide That's Easy To Understand

By Zack Olaverra

We seem to hear a lot about vitamins " the good, bad, and the ugly, but somehow minerals are like an invisible ingredient that plays a very important role in our health but seldom get the attention they deserve. Here is your easy to understand guide to mineral supplements.

Minerals are involved in almost every body function; from strengthening our bones, to our brains. They are also are a catalyst for many chemical reactions our bodies need to stay healthy.

Although your body can make vitamins, no one has the capacity to make minerals. Minerals can only be acquired by eating the right foods and through supplements.

Recent studies show just how mineral deficient we can be. Some results are as follows

1. A study done recently in Canada shows that there has been a sharp decline in the nutrients found in our food over the past 50 years. This includes calcium, trace minerals, and iron.

2.The American population as a whole is not getting enough minerals like zinc, calcium, magnesium, chromium, and selenium from their food.- (US Department of Agriculture study)

This means even if you are eating a diet that is packed with fresh fruits and vegetables, and you are eating meat you are still at risk of becoming vitamin or mineral deficient. A lack of minerals can do a great deal of damage when it comes to your health. Even if you take enough vitamins if you do not have sufficient minerals your body will not be able to use the vitamins.

3. Studies show if you take compound or Chelated minerals (pills and capsules) you're getting a lot less than you realize, because their absorbency rate is less than 20%. That's why you should take a liquid Ionic mineral, which studies have shown, is 100% absorbable by the body. That's because they are water soluble.

Science That Is As Good As Nature.

Do you know anything about the company you're considering buying from? While many people think that throwing a bunch of minerals together makes a supplement, liquid Ionic minerals that are created by scientists are the highest quality minerals you can buy.

The supplement industry is not well regulated within the US which means that you may not always be getting what you think you are when it comes to buying mineral supplements and indeed all nutritional supplements. One way to know you are getting a quality supplement is to choose manufacturers who are pharmaceutical and cGMP compliant. This is the highest standard and it ensures that the company has strict quality control procedures in place.

Which Mineral Supplements should you choose?

We already talked about the importance of liquid ionic minerals. Now lets look at some of the more important minerals that you need to stay healthy.

Calcium/Magnesium- these two supplements go hand-in-hand. Together, magnesium and calcium keep our teeth and bones healthy and strong. If you're only taking calcium supplements then you're not getting the full effect of calcium.

Wait, it gets worse. A compound or even chelated calcium supplement (found mostly as a pill or capsule) only gives you about 20% of absorbable calcium. So your 1000 mg of calcium really only provides 200 mg at best. However liquid calcium is water soluble and absorbable up to 100%. The same is true of all liquid Ionic minerals. It's the best way to make sure you're using the dose you're taking.

Zinc - often used in natural remedies to fight off colds and flu because of its miraculous healing powers and immune strengthening abilities.

Chromium - controls blood sugars, fat and cholesterol. It also helps with metabolism. (weight control)

Selenium " This is a trace element that is essential for building a healthy immune system. It is found in almost every cell, and its also found in soil.

These are the five most important minerals, although there are lots of others. Now that you know each one does, you are ready to choose a liquid ionic mineral supplement that fits in with your lifestyle and your life. - 17268
