Increase Vertical Workouts

By James R Puta

You only have so long in life to play the sport of your dreams. Why not give it your all early on to learn how to jump higher? If you learn to jump high from the beginning you will be a great player for years to come. So it's time to buckle down and learn to jump higher now.

How do you go about learning to jump higher? You have to have the right combination of leg strength and leg speed. The strength is very important for more reason than one. You need strong muscles and tendons to be able to absorb the intense impacts associated with jump training.

When you want to work on speed you need to start what are called plyometrics. These are exercises that will be based on jumping to produce more fast twitch muscle fibers in your legs. But that's not the only thing that they do, they also train all the muscle fibers to fire at the same time.

To product power you want the muscles to fire as close to the same time as possible, and this is why some people jump higher than others.

Plyometric workouts will involve many things that you may not be use to. Such as plyo boxes, for example. These boxes are made for you to jump on and in between each one you should only touch the ground for a split second as if it were a trampoline.

Jumping squats are one exception to the rule where you allow your feet to stay in contact with the ground for more than a split second. And this is because it trains your legs as well as your speed in one exercise.
