Multicolored And Healthful Foods That Uphold Health

These days it nearly seems that fast food and packaged convenience foods have become the norm. Our on the go lives just add to the fact that we often take convenience above nourishment. However, if we want to preserve our physical condition over the long duration we would be intelligent to consider what we eat.

Most people realize the worth of diet and nutrition and how they link up to good health but good quality sustenance can not only help us to preserve our wellbeing but it can in fact support better health by preventing illness, reversing the challenges of aging and helping us to live longer, healthier and more dynamic lives.

Nature provides us with the foods that should be the foundation for our broad nutrition plan. The foods that grow up in our gardens, in the ground, from the vines and the trees, the things you buy at the farmers market and in the produce section of your preferred store and the foods that our great-great grandparents ate should be the staples of our beneficial diets. Lean meats, poultry and fish can also have a place in a healthy diet if you want to eat those foods but the plant-based foods should be the main constituent of a good for you nutritional regime.

Much research has been conducted of late about the effectiveness of antioxidants and probable health benefits of foods. Crucial nutrients have been revealed such as carotenoids, flavonoids and polyphenols, selenium, folic acid, lutein, lycopene and resveratol and of course, many others. The names can be baffling if you read the data.

Then again, it is in fact fairly easy to include all of the nutrients you need in your diet. You just need to look for the most multi-colored fruits and vegetables, make sure that the grains you eat are whole and never processed, eat beans often as a great source or protein and fiber, incorporate some nuts and seeds for the best snacks and you can even sneak in one glass of red wine and a small chocolate extravagance as often as everyday so long as you stick with the dark chocolate and don't eat more than about an ounce.

The orange foods provide carotenoids and other vital nutrients. These would include pumpkin, orange bell peppers, butternut squash, cantaloupe, sweet potatoes and carrots. Make sure you also include plenty of the red foods, like tomatoes and watermelon. Pass up virtually all white foods with the exception of cauliflower and jicama.

You want dark green foods like spinach, Swiss chard, bok choy, romaine lettuce and kale because they are especially wholesome and extremely valuable to our healthiness. These green foods are high in fiber and low in calories, which makes them a great diet food. Deep blue, purple and red foods contain some of the highest antioxidant traits on the earth. These foods include blueberries, cranberries, red grapes and the acai berry.
