Know More About Vitamin Supplements

By Keith Woolley

Vitamins can be found in both plants and animals. They are an essential food requirement. For our bodies to remain healthy and functioning we need vitamins. They aid in the breakdown of other foods nutrients in the body. Nutrients found in vitamins are not enough to sustain a human body, therefore energy giving food have to be taken as well. Deficiency of vitamins can lead to numerous diseases.

Vitamins are essential and must be present in sufficient amounts for the body to continue to perform its functions properly. They help in keeping diseases at bay. They also aid in the manufacture of hormones and other hereditary components. Vitamins are however required in small portions by the body for it to function as required. For the body to grow normally, healthy portions of vitamins have to be taken.

There are times when the amount that you get from food is not enough therefore you may need to take some supplements. These supplements are manufactured in industries. The supplements are supposed to be taken together with natural foods and not as a substitute for food. Taking more than the recommended amount can lead to serious health complications for you. Before you start taking vitamin supplements, make sure you get adequate information from a dietician.

Natural vitamins can be found in both plants and animals. They have not undergone any form of processing before being consumed by humans. There are however no guidelines to taking these vitamins. The only thing is an indicator is that the body remains healthy. For an average person, a certain number of vitamin nutrients in take are required daily. It is important to note that food supplements should not be a replacement for a balanced diet. Recommended doses for minerals from a nutritionist should not be overlooked. Diseases that occur from a deficiency of vitamins can be prevented if the right amounts of vitamins are taken daily.

The Vitamins that we need are either found in natural food sources or manufactured in factories. There are several types of vitamins that you are supposed to take and each of them serves an important function in the body. Vitamin B1 helps the body to break down fats and use them as energy. Vitamin B2 helps to keep the skin healthy. Vitamin B3 assists in the digestion of fats in the body. Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B5 help you to grow. - 17268

Low Fat, No Fat, and Wo Fat

By Dr. Bill

You must be the same age as me if you get the Hawaii 5-0 reference to Wo Fat, a villain from the old television show. A medical school classmate of mine got stuck with that for a nickname, and it fit him perfectly.

I've never been a fan of "low fat" dishes, or ingredients, and the few "no fat" items that have crossed my lips usually fell in the "disgusting" category. Usually they ended up in the garbage disposal as soon as no one was looking.

I will say there are a few low or no fat foods that actually make the grade. You find them by sticking to foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. Take Jersey tomatoes for instance, with a couple drops of olive oil, some balsamic vinegar, and a hint of salt and pepper.

There's watermelon as well.

Maybe some fresh cherries or peaches?

Salad can be excellent if it's pulled fresh from the ground.

But I'm a realist, and this doesn't happen every day, or even month. But when the opportunity presents itself, go for it. Your body loves these ingredients, as opposed to Pop Tarts, and microwaved mac and cheese.

The other thing is, most low fat and no fat items are really not food, but a sort of chemical construct. See if you recognize any of the ingredients. And most of them contain artificial sweeteners, which are just plain bad for you.

Just remember what Julia Childs once said. "If you want to lose some weight, eat a little less. You don't need to eat a 16 ounce steak, or a one pound potato. Butter isn't your enemy, gluttony is!" Don't forget to sound that out in her unmistakable voice.

Let's face it, it doesn't take Larry The Cable Guy to break down why Hot Pockets are bad for you, although it's a fun discourse if you get the chance.

If you want effective weight loss, one of the biggest keys is eating food in its natural state. Just watch a group of chefs eat the next time you can. You'll see simple dishes but with pristine ingredients.

It used to be a pain to get good ingredients for cooking.

But these days with a minimum effort, we can. So gradually introducing more natural stuff into your diet can be easy.

There was a study I just finished reading showing that people who made changes in their diets, and I'm not talking radical changes, as well as supplemented with pharmaceutical grade fish oil, lost weight and kept it off.

That's good news. Simple changes in diet, combined with an ultra pure pharmaceutical grade fish oil are a dynamite combination.

So get started now and you won't have to spend any time reading old magazines in an overcrowded waiting room, if you know what I mean. - 17268

How to Reduce Cholesterol

By Charlie Reese

We all know that too-high cholesterol levels spells trouble for your heart health. If your doctor has advised you of a high cholesterol condition, it's wise to take immediate steps to bring those numbers down. While there are cholesterol lowering medications you can take, there's so much you can do to accomplish your objective through dietary changes.

Here are some of the best cholesterol reducing foods, herbs and spices to work into your cholesterol reducing diet program. Including plentiful amounts of these foods and nutrients can whip those numbers into shape within as little as three months. These healthy dietary inclusions also offer an array of other benefits to your general health. Let's take a look.

Garlic is a top notch ingredient for any cholesterol reducing diet program. Many studies have found garlic equally effective in reducing cholesterol readings, when compared with pharmaceutical medications. Garlic also lowers your blood pressure, is an anti-cancer agent and effectively wards off colds and flus by enhancing your immune system response. Garlic is also a natural antibiotic, proven effective against 27 specific pathogens, including streptococcus. Douse your salads and entrees with garlic and save some cash on the meds!

An apple or two a day is another smart choice for your cholesterol reducing diet plan. While lowering cholesterol, they're loaded with vitamin A, warding off cancer and those nasty colds. Replace that candy bar with an apple for a healthful snack.

When you make salads, use raw spinach instead of lettuce. Packed with antioxidants and fiber, you'll reduce your risk of cancer while getting those cholesterol numbers down. Fresh spinach is most effective. You can add a side of lightly steamed spinach as a side dish to an entree of cold water fish, such as salmon, for a power dinner of a cholesterol reducing diet menu. A sprinkling of garlic in your meal certainly doesn't hurt!

Dress that salad with olive oil. Olive oil dissolves cholesterol deposits and is certainly an essential in any cholesterol reducing diet program. Don't forget the garlic! Incidentally, olive oil is good for your nerves and digestion.

Make broccoli a frequent snack or side dish. Pair raw broccoli florets with a spinach dip and eat to your heart's content. Rich in fiber and antioxidants, you can protect your body from cancer while simultaneously reducing cholesterol. Broccoli is a great food for diabetics, regulating blood sugar levels.

Soy products significantly reduce blood cholesterol levels. Try substituting a glass of soy milk for your afternoon soda. Tofu is a chameleon food, taking on the flavor of any food or broth it accompanies. Soak some sliced, extra firm tofu in chicken broth and fry lightly. Combine in a chef's salad of spinach, garlic and mushrooms for a tasty treat and a premium cholesterol reducing diet dish. Soy is an undisputed anti-cancer agent as well.

Speaking of mushrooms, Shiitake mushrooms are a powerful addition to your cholesterol reducing diet plan. Available fresh or dried, not only do they reduce your cholesterol, but simultaneously reduce HBP and reduce your risk of cancer.

Make cold water fish a regular part of your cholesterol reducing diet. Salmon, halibut, sea bass and tuna are all high in the Omega-3 fatty acids. While improving your cholesterol readings, you're decreasing cardiovascular risks, such as heart attacks by a whopping 50%! Explore curry recipes. Turmeric is the main ingredient, a spice which lowers cholesterol, aids digestion, reduces blood sugar levels, as well as your risk of cancer. If you suffer from arthritis, turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory.

It's interesting to note that foods which regulate cholesterol levels are most often potent anti-cancer agents. These foods are also easily combined into tasty recipes that make it easy to create a cholesterol reducing diet plan that's a pleasure to consume. Go for it! - 17268

Suppress Appetite and Lose Weight with Caralluma

By Therese Zachary

Not everyone is familiar with Caralluma. You should try to learn more about it though. This is especially if you are overweight,or obese. This means you need to loose weight and to do that, you need to effectively control your appetite. With Caralluma fimbirata, appetite control doesn?t have to be a struggle.

The Caralluma Fimbriata Plant

Cactus Family - Caralluma fimbriata is a plant that belongs to the cactus family. It grows in the wild in India and for centuries it has been used by hunters to stave off hunger during hunting expeditions. Ordinary citizens also used the plant when there weren?t enough food supplies to go around. The plant could be eaten raw or cooked but it was effective in controlling appetite in any way it is consumed.

Caralluma Fimbriata and Hoodia

There may be some who have already heard of Caralluma fimbriata. It is common knowledge however that there really are other natural appetite suppressors. One such popular option is the Hoodia plant from Africa. Since Hoodia has the same appetite suppressing effects as Caralluma fimbriata, the two have often been compared.

Both natural ingredients are effective. Some people however may prefer products that contain Caralluma fimbriata. This is not because Caralluma is significantly more effective than Hoodia. Their preference is perhaps based more on ingredient supply. It is far harder to find products that contain authentic Hoodia. This is because the African plant is rare and its transport outside of its place of origin is strictly controlled. Caralluma fimbriata does not have the same strict rules for manufacturer acquisition.

Looking for Caralluma Fimbriata Products

Increasing Popularity - This succulent plant is gradually becoming well known. You only have to enter its name on a search engine to find more information about it. Moreover, a basic search will also provide you with a variety of product pages. There are a couple of products that are now sold online or in health stores that contain extracts of the plant. This is good news for a lot of people. You do not need to get a doctor?s prescription to get a few months? supply of a Caralluma product. This is mainly because authentic natural Caralluma products do not contain chemical additives and have not been known to cause any side effects.

Product Options - Your only real problem would be how to find out which products are good options. Even if there is sufficient raw plant supply, there are still some manufacturers who will try to rip you off with products that don?t really work. The effort of manufacturing authentic natural appetite suppressors can be taxing. If you want to find reputable products, you can check consumer product reviews. There?s nothing better than asking people who use Caralluma products about the effectiveness of a particular product brand. Products and brands that do not have a good reputation would also have online consumer warnings posted online. - 17268

Health Tips - Pains during Growth in Children

By Jan Maurer

Growing pain is part and parcel of the growing phase in a child's life. When the child stops growing so will the growing pain and when adolescence is reached, they disappear completely. Growing pain can occur between three to five years or eight to twelve years of age. Growing pains are usually experienced in the legs usually in the calves, in the area in front of thighs and behind the knees. The pain starts either in the afternoon or night, just before bedtime. The child can go to bed pain free, but can wake up in the middle of the night complaining of throbbing pain in the legs. But the good part is that these pains vanish by morning. About twenty five to forty percent of the children are known to experience growing pain.

One of the major reasons of getting growing pains is because of the strenuous activities of the kids during the day. All the jumping around, running and climbing make the muscles tired. But no evidence has been collected which can prove that the growing pain is caused by bone growth. Growing pains are also known to be caused by spurt of growth. This happens because the tendons or the muscles are too tight and do not synchronize with the growing of the bones. As a results muscle spasms are caused which last for less than fifteen minutes.

The child usually gets pain in both the legs and not just one. And usually, growing pains do not get accompanied with redness, swelling or fever. The pain should be over by morning and if it is still uninterrupted after the awakening of the kid, the problem could be related to something else and more serious.

If the pain is unbearable, the parent or caretaker should administer pain relieving medications which are acquirable over the counter such as Motrin or acetaminophen. Aspirin should not be given to children as they have a tendency to develop a very serious illness known as Reye Syndrome. Heating pads can be placed on the region that is hurting to assist the pain. Massage can also be given by the parent or the child can do stretching exercise to help the muscles relax. If the child develops fever, redness, swelling, tenderness, limitation in movement, or if the child limps while walking, the doctor should be approached. Before that the parent can do a little diagnosis of the intensity of the pain by feeling around the area and perceptive the pain experienced by the child. The pain shouldn't be so intense that the child is abstained from normal routine such as walking, running or playing.

The doctor conducts the diagnosis of exclusion to understand the problem. According to this diagnosis, it is not prefabricated until all the conditions are checked before considering growing pains. The doctor studies the child's medical history and conducts a physical examination. In some serious cases, the doctor advices to go for X-ray or blood test before the final decision is made.

The exercise need not be complex. Even if the pain subsides, the exercise should be continued so as to keep the tendons and muscles relaxed and to adjust with the growth spurt. Fluids, when taken in good quantity, decrease the cramping. For this reason, the child should be given tonic water or quinine before going to bed. - 17268

Before that big day comes, everybody from bride to guests appears to wish to shed at least a few extra pounds. The bride is the person who agonizes most about the way she will look on her wedding day. Many people appear to look forward to giving the impression of being their best on the wedding day.

TMJ Symptoms and Treatment

By Chrisitan Goodman

A friend of mine loves chocolates. He especially loves chocolates which have been frozen.

My friend's wife, however, suffers from Temporomandibular Joint Disorder. Her condition is exacerbated by the cold of the frozen candy. When asked, she was quite eager to share the symptoms of her condition.

Most TMJ sufferers experience the same or similar symptoms but some are always surprising. Or, at least this is what I have found in researching this condition to create my TMJ program.

TMJ is actually just the temporomandibular joint. When people say they suffer from "TMJ" what they mean is that they suffer from a disorder or disorders of the joint.

The TMJ is what allows us to talk, chew and yawn. Located on either side in front of the ears, TMJs are made up of blood vessels, muscles, nerves and bones.

You can find the joint by placing a finger in front of your ear and then by opening and closing the mouth. The jawbones actions are to open and close the mouth, act in a gliding action which allows the mouth to open wide and for acting as a hinge.

TMJ disorder occurs when the joint becomes eroded and slides out of alignment. Certain medical conditions can also cause damage to the cartilage in the joint. A trauma or injury can also cause a disorder.

This condition can also be caused when the joint is over used. This is one of the reasons it's so unhealthy to grind or clench your teeth. In addition to eroding your teeth, it can cause the TMJ disorder. Certain others are born with an irregular development of the joint.

Triggers which can bring on symptoms include: grinding one's teeth, drinking or eating cold things, lack of sleep, poor neck and face posture, exposure to cold air and stress.

TMJ disorders affect women more then men, with the total population affected about 5-15%. Some experts say the number is higher due to cases which go undiagnosed.

Some common symptoms include: Headache (most sufferers complain of this), pain or tenderness in the jaw, earache, pain in the face, clicking sound when opening or closing the mouth accompanied by pain (a clicking sound without pain does not necessarily mean you have TMJ), neck pain and difficulty opening and closing the mouth.

Surgery is rarely required and most of the things that cause this condition can be corrected. For example, your dentist can create a "bite guard" to help you keep from grinding your teeth.

In my friend's case, his wife simply needed to avoid cold food and drink and direct exposure to cold air (cold air increases muscle contraction). I suggested to her that she try my TMJ and it worked! She was able to develop healthy habits to avoid the nasty symptoms of TMJ disorder.

Overwhelming good reviews of my all natural programs such as the aforementioned TMJ program and my Migraine and Headache program has really impressed upon me the need that so many have to find a solution which doesn't involve medication. If this is the case with you, please try my program!
