Curl the back up while tightening the abdominal muscles. Hold for a count of ten, release then repeat for five more counts. This is a simple exercise and great way to start.

Lying on the back with the knees bent and fingers touching the shoulders. Tighten the tummy as you touch your knees with your elbows. Yes, these are mini sit-ups, but with the added feature of tightening the tummy. Hold the position for a count of five then release and lay complete back with the legs straightened. Repeat this exercise for another count of five when you first start and build up as you gain strength.

Again, lying flat on back prop hips up with hands and pretend to ride a bicycle while holding the stomach tight. Start slow and when the hips are released straighten the legs and hold arms above head as straight as possible. The last of exercises for the abs is the most relaxing but actually is doing the most work. Folding the fingers behind the neck arch the back and tighten the stomach muscles at the same time. Count to six then relax complete leaning forward, hanging the arms and head down and shoulders relaxed. Do this a few times at first and work up as you do them more. This exercise stretches all of the parts you've been abusing and tightens the abs at the same time.

There are many exercises for abs that are effective and work many other parts of the body. But the most effective exercises for abs are the ones that a person can actually do in the location they are at. For many people there is not enough time in the day to go to a gym regularly and when one gets home they don't feel like pulling out a treadmill. According to the Center for Disease Control, arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the United States.1 Approximately 47 million people have doctor-diagnosed arthritis and 17 million have arthritis which is attributable to activity limitations.

Osteoarthritis, the most common form, is a degenerative condition affecting the joints and the soft tissues around the joints and the associated cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. The most commonly affected areas are the spine, the hands, and the shoulders, hips, and knees. The pain of arthritis, the reduced mobility, and the lifestyle accommodations needed for pain avoidance are discouraging and may even lead to depression.
